World Championships

The 2025 AbbottWMM MTT Age Group World Championships (AGWC) will take place within the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon on November 2, 2025.
THE 2026 AGE GROUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WILL BE HELD WITHIN THE SANLAM CAPE TOWN MARATHON ON MAY 24.
We are pleased to partner with Marathon Tours & Travel on the official AGWC Package specifically geared for AGWC runners!
Your four-night package at the Westin Cape Town Hotel provides perks such as private coach bus to the start, pre-race dinner and hosts on-site to assist with all logistics.
If you have already qualified you can reserve your package here.
Will the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon count as a star on my AbbottWMM runner portal?
If the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon secures its second pass in its candidacy to join the AbbottWMM Series in October 2025, the 2026 event will be its first edition as a Major and all official finishers – including Age Group World Championship participants – will be awarded a star.
If the race does not gain its second pass after the 2025 event, Age Group World Championship finishers in 2026 will receive a provisional star from the 2026 event. This will be upgraded to a full star upon successful completion of Cape Town’s candidacy.
The 2024 Championships took place within the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS and full results for past championships can be found here.
“The multiple events for the Age Group World Championship (AGWC) runners were superb. The total planning on events in addition to the race, really made the AGWC runners feel as if they were being rewarded for qualifying for the event. I also loved the separate start area and the way you were escorted to the start line, very special and rewarding.” – 2024 Sydney AGWC Participant
Currently there are not enough races which have non-binary categories with sufficient numbers to create meaningful competition and accordingly the AbbottWMM MTT Age Group World Rankings and Championships are unable to offer a non-binary option for qualification. This will be kept under annual review.
Qualification for the 2025 championship is now closed. See below for the qualifying pathways for the 2026 championship.
1) TOP RANKED ATHLETES
Leading athletes from each age group will be invited to the 2026 World Championships when the 2025 rankings season closes. The exact number of athletes for each age group will be dependent on the field size.
